• MADE IN GERMANY - The Munich is a full sized mattock, and is two tools in one. On one side is an axe blade for cutting through heavy roots, and on the other side is a digger hoe for digging, trenching, and clearing. The oiled handle finish will protect the wood against the elements and moisture, and from drying out over time. Manufactured by hand as they were 100 years ago, Idealspaten is the only industrial manufacturer of landscape tools in Germany.
• THE OILED HANDLE FINISH will protect the wood against the elements and moisture, and from drying out over time. When neglected, a handle is more likely to dry out, become brittle, and crack. Proper care will significantly prolong the handle’s life. Our handles are linseed oil finished for long term protection. Over time, as this finish diminishes with use, it's best to sand it down smooth and apply a new finish ensuring the handle stays healthy, flexible, and retains a proper moisture level.
• HAMMERED FINISH PREMIUM GRADE GERMAN C50 CARBON STEEL HEAD - A unique finish that creates an uneven surface texture, and protects the steel from rust and corrosion - Heat treated and oil hardened - Steel sleeve handle protector. The steel blank is heated to approximately 2200 degrees Fahrenheit. An indentation is pressed into the blank from both sides, while the steel is soft and glowing orange hot. The steel is rolled in multiple stages, which is strengthening the steel and increasing density.
• HANDLE - FSC CERTIFIED GERMAN ASH - Straight shaft for balance and strength - Individually selected for grain orientation and density - 150 grit smooth sanded - Linseed oil finish. Our saw mill cuts the Ash logs into planks, which are then stored and softly air dried for 9 to 10 months, depending on the weather in Northern Europe that season. Our proprietary drying process will bring the wood's moisture content down to a precise level, before the wood is ready to be made into handles.
• SPECIFICATIONS - Head Width: 17 in - Total Length: 41 ½ in. - Total Weight: 5 ¾ lbs. Carbon steel is susceptible to rusting over time. Rust can be prevented by keeping the steel head oiled. If rusting does occur, use steel wool or an abrasive to remove the rust, and then wipe down with our Axe-Guard Head Oil. Axe-Guard is a metal protecting and rust preventative oil, and the residue is safe for contact on leather, wood, or skin.
